Quality of Life Changes For Your Chat Log in FFXIV

Your chat log will be your main way to communicate with others and receive information about what’s going on in game. Here are a suggestions for changes you may want to make to improve your chat log experience.

  • Turn off Party Finder Notifications

Party Finder Notifications are turned on by default, and if you’ve been playing for a while, it’s likely you’ve seen the notifications cluttering your chat log. You can turn it off in Party Finder settings. To do this, open party finder, and open Party Finder Display Settings using the cog wheel in the top right hand corner. Once you’ve opened that window you can unselect the option “Display advanced search results in log.”

  • Customise Chat Log Colours

You can customise the colours of chats from the different groups you are in, allowing you to easily identify them in the chat log. To do so you need to open up the Log Window Settings. You can do this in two ways.

1. Use the little cog icon at the bottom-right of the chat log window.

2. Open system settings, and select character configuration and then select the Log Windows Settings from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.

Once there, click the Log Text Colors button and reassign your desired colours to the different chat groups. You will find the most useful groups under Chat 1 and Chat 2.

  • Increasing Accessibility

Font size and transparency of the chat log can be changed. You can do this in the Log Window Settings under the Log Details tab which you can select using the buttons at the top of the window. You will need to update the settings for each of your chat tabs individually. Increasing the font size and reducing the transparency of the window, together with customising your chat log colours can increase readibility of the text.

  • Assign Notification Sounds

By default, the only notification sounds you will receive for chat messages are tells. Direct messages sent to you from other players. However, you can assign sound notifications to all chat groups, making sure you never miss important messages. To do so, select the Notification Sounds tab in the Log Window Settings.
